Escape
ESCAPE
2008
installation of 21 mixed media storyboards
NTU S3.1 Level 4
project Derive 4D exhibition
A garden is a place where people usually visit to escape from the business in life. I tried. My visit to Botany Garden was not as successful because as I was about to leave the world of reality, the thoughts of school works and problems restrict me in doing so. in the end, I have to escape from these thoughts.
'Escape' is a series of photomontages, a continuation of alternate persona project where the character I portray represents a stronger individual. The work is also inspired by Oneika Russel's In the Night Garden. However, instead of blending the images digitally, I used cut and paste technique to show the idea of craft. At the same time, it makes the characters and setting, two different reality as they look separated yet exist on the same ground. This work also marks a few of my preferable style which are photomontage, using receipts and own self to create a persona or character.

Apple on Canvas exhibition

Adam. Apple. Adam's Apple.
In this globalized world, men is still under the punishment of the forbidden fruit. With all the technologies which result in emphasis on consumerism, do humans' life turn for the better or the worse ? The apple is already rotten ( but not dead ) and we are now under the punishment of our own materialism.

MEN AND ACORNS

a series of 10 mixed media postcard size works
Pameran Poskad 2008
House at Dempsey Road ( 6th Dec - 30th Dec )
Inspired by the Ignudis on the Sistine Chapel by Michaelangelo, this series of works question the identity of men ( pun intended ), focusing on certain ideas such as materialism, physical beauty and sexuality. What have we become in this world of globalisation ? This is a question which I would like viewers to think about as they look into the use of red color, receipts papers and printed men figures, collaged into these series of works.

1. A Man Dipped In Red
2. A Man and His Tied Acorns

FAITH
2008
mixed media installation
Botany Garden Function Room ( 20th-23rd November 2008 )
the Yellow Ribbon Project : Community Art Exhibition 2008
The installation tells a story of the inmates' journey in their process of reconnection to faith. The dark background symbolizes their past and is contrasted with the light within the sculptures. Phrases in different languages which revolves around the word 'faith' are written on the floor, visually connecting the 4 sections together, forming a larger landscape.
In this project, I jump into the idea of impermanent installation because the process of reconnecting will end at a certain point of time where the inmates are reconnected to their faith. This work is also an accumulative efforts of the inmates and public thus signifies not only the efforts from the inmates but also the public in receiving the new them.
The first 6 photos are the initial installation plan set up in my place's function room. While the remaining 7 are the set up installation at Botany Garden Function Room.
special thanks to Zech, Justin, the Yellow Ribbon Project, the very generous people who took care of the exhibitions ( names will be updated soon ) and last but not least, the boys from Reformative Training Centre.
